Instructions for the download and installation
- Download the version of RasMol which is compatible with your
operating system (RasWin.exe for Windows, RasMac for Macintosh).
You can also download the corresponding help file. Save in your
Applications folder.
- Locate the RasMol set up icon in that folder, and click on it.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install.
- Once installed, make sure your Web browser is configured to open
RasMol at the appropriate times (that is, set up your browser to
recognize that certain file types with certain file extensions,
also known as a MIME type, should be loaded into RasMol and displayed.).
To configure RasMol 2.7.2.1 in Netscape:
- Go into Preferences under Edit, then Applications under Navigator.
- Remove all existing RasMol/Raswin MIME types.
- Click on a 'pdb format' link on any NDB Web page, such as the Coordinate
Data files at the bottom of any ATLAS page.
- Netscape should pop up the "Unknown File Type" window.
- Click on the "Pick App..." button.
- Browse to select raswin.exe from RasMol 2.7.2.1.
- Close Netscape and open it again.
- Choose "Edit >> Preferences >> Applications."
- Edit the "Raswin File" entry to add "-script" to the "Application" entry.
- Close and restart Netscape.
- WIN2K users, it is recommended to use RasTop 2.0 with Internet Explorer version 6.0+ or Netscape 4.7+, the latter requiring configuration of the MIME types:
- Go into Preferences under Edit, then Applications under Navigator.
- From the list of MIME types, select the entry for RSM scripts that
corresponds to the "rsm" file extension.
- Click on Edit, and enter "application/x-rasmol" in the MIME type box, then click OK.
- Close and restart Netscape.
- Details on configuring RasMol for older versions of Netscape (2.0, 3.0)
can be found here. Below are the commands to add the MIME type. Please refer
to the documentation associated with your specific browser to understand how
to add these commands.
